Program Overview
Ken Davis is joined by Chicago Police Board Chair Lori Lightfoot, who also led the Mayor’s Police Accountability Task Force. They discuss the Department of Justice report on the Chicago Police Department released three weeks ago. Both the PATF and DOJ reports sound similar themes: that CPD engages in practices that disproportionately victimize minority communities and that CPD is in need of significant investment. Financial resources are needed to radically improve police training and update the department’s equipment, the reports say. Further, Lightfoot expresses disappointment that Mayor Emanuel and the City Council have not moved more quickly to implement many major recommendations of the reports, and she welcomes help from President Trump if that help comes in the form of additional investment in the City and its impoverished citizens.
