Familiar Faces on the Board of Directors
At their December 2020 annual meeting, the Board of Directors brought back a few familiar faces, created a new Director Emeritus position, and welcomed new officers.
Dulce Maria Diaz Joins the Board
Dulce Maria Diaz, former Board member and member-producer rejoined the Board of Directors. Ms. Diaz is the Executive Director of S.H.E. Gallery, an arts and education based non-profit corporation dedicated to the promotion of self-esteem, and has had a program on CAN TV since January, 2017.
John Cooke and Levi Moore Join as Directors Emeritus
The Director Emeritus position is a new addition to the Board’s bylaws. The Director Emeritus position is an advisory role designed to leverage the expertise and experience of Board members beyond their initial terms of service. Directors Emeritus are selected among candidates who have served the Board with distinction and excellence.
The inaugural Directors Emeritus are John Cooke, CCIM, MBA and Levi Moore.
Mr. Cooke is an avid photographer with a passion for all voices to be shared. He served eight years on the Chicago Access Corporation Board of Directors including one year as its Chair. Currently, Mr. Cooke serves as the Secretary of Independent Film Alliance Chicago (IFA Chicago). He is experienced in developing and managing millions of square feet of commercial real estate, and brings together the delicate balance of arts, business, and creativity.
Mr. Moore is an Illinois public policy subject matter and not-for-profit management expert. He served on the Chicago Access Corporation’s Board of Directors for six years. He previously served as chair and chaired several committees including the Public and Governmental Relations and Resource Development committees. Mr. Moore works for the Hektoen Institute of Medical Research where his responsibilities include public affairs, strategic alliance development, and coordinating the activities and growth of the Foxglove Alliance, a burgeoning coalition of Chicago area health care non-government organizations.
New Officers for 2020-2021
December also marked the election of the officers of the Board for the year ahead:
Robbie Smith, independent Business Development and Marketing consultant and Host/Producer of “Having Your Say” on CAN TV19 was elected to continue her service as chair of the Public and Government Relations committee.
Carolyn Day, Executive Director of the Black United Fund of Illinois (BUFI), was elected to chair the Finance Committee.
CAN TV’s Board of Directors
CAN TV’s Board of Directors acts as the organization’s policy makers and governing body. Board members lend their expertise as volunteers in the areas of finance, legal, public relations, fundraising, community outreach, and beyond. Board members believe in the need for an active public media and support CAN TV’s first amendment mandate.
In addition to the officers listed above, CAN TV’s Directors include:
Rochester Bailey, Robin Hoecker, Daphne Logan, and Sufyan Sohel.
Board members serve a three-year term, which can be renewed for three more years.
