Celebrating 35 Years!

April 16, 2018

Greetings to All Our CAN TV Friends,

Thirty-five years ago on April 25, 1983, CAN TV’s epic odyssey commenced as a not-for-profit community based advocate for the noble proposition of maximum community involvement in, and usage of cable television by Chicago residents, groups, and institutions for cultural, educational, health, social service, civic, community, and other such purposes.

As this City’s independent standard bearer for the inherent values of those original intents, it has been part of CAN TV’s ongoing mission over the years not only to deliver on that early potential, but in fact to extend our scope and accessibility as technology has evolved, and in order to keep pace with an ever-changing multimedia environment.

To that end, CAN TV now thrives in a brand new, centrally located, multi-purpose media facility, encompassing more than 20,000 square feet of space containing updated television studios, state-of-the-art-equipment, added space for training and orientations, and ample free parking!

And yet CAN TV’s successes are about much more than just brick-and-mortar expansion. Our successes are about You—the People! So we proclaim with great pride and enthusiasm our continuing commitment to providing courteous, professional, caring attention and assistance from our dedicated staff!

By the way, we’ll be celebrating our 35th Anniversary this year, among other ways by producing and hosting a live trivia game show called “Guess Me If You CAN,” which will cablecast on Monday, April 30, 2018 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Please be sure to check out the live simulcast on CAN TV Channel 19 and CAN TV Channel 27 (for Comcast, RCN, and WideOpenWest subscribers. If you are an AT&T U-Verse subscriber, tune into channel 99, then search the menu for Chicago Access Network). The show will also be streamed live online at cantv.org/live.

This first-time ever event promises to be a lot of FUN, and if you would like to test your knowledge of CAN TV while maybe learning a few interesting facts you perhaps never knew before, give us a call at (312) 738-1845. Prizes will be awarded!

Thanks again to each and every one of you for 35 years of loyal and unwavering support. The past may be prologue, but the best is yet to come!

Best Wishes,
Jim McVane
CAN TV Executive Director
