Celebrating Hispanic Heritage

September 24, 2014

In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, CAN TV is highlighting “Perspectivas Latinas,” a show that offers a unique look at Chicago’s Latino community.

Mark Rodriguez, Executive Director of Changing Worlds, describes “Perspectivas Latinas” as a program that “informs its English and Spanish-speaking communities of the rich cultural and arts-based programs occurring in the Chicago area.”

Smaller organizations that otherwise may not have a voice in the mainstream media use the show as a platform for connecting with their neighbors on television and online.

“We rely heavily on access to the Chicago community through programming such as “Perspectivas Latinas” and CAN TV,” said Nelson Gonzalez, Chicago Cuatro Orchestra Project.

Even beyond sharing their culture, these groups see real-life results. Samuel Cortez, Mexican Dance Ensemble, said people regularly come to their performances after seeing their organization on the program.

“CAN TV truly provides an important service for the community,” Cortez said.
